Former Falcon wins collegiate sprint

Jon Poolman blasted by his competition to win the 400-meter race and set a school record at the Great Northern Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships.

Jon Poolman blasted by his competition to win the 400-meter race and set a school record at the Great Northern Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships.

Poolman, who graduated from South Whidbey High School in 2010, finished the race in 48.85 seconds. The time set the 400-meter record for Western Washington University where Poolman is a sophomore and was only .4 seconds from tying the GNAC record.

He also was a member of the championship 1600-meter relay team that set the GNAC record with a time of 3 minutes, 18.17 seconds.

Poolman ranks 38th on the NCAA Division II indoor 400 meter list.
