South Whidbey fell 9-1 to Lakewood in baseball on Monday.
The Cougars tallied 14 hits and the Falcons were their own worst enemies defensively. Five Falcon errors led to four unearned runs for Lakewood. With the game still in reach in the seventh inning, two errors sealed the game by the bottom of the seventh.
The lone Falcon run came in the first inning with two outs. Riley Newman stroked a 2-0 pitch to left-center field for a double then stole third base and scored on an overthrow at third.
Offensively, the Falcons were led by Aaron Curfman and Jack Lewis who each had two singles on the day.
Wednesday is a travel day as they go to Lakewood for a 4 p.m. start. Friday, South Whidbey returns home for the final game of the series with the Cougars.
