Unable to get any offense going, the South Whidbey High School girls basketball team lost to visiting King’s 64-9 Tuesday, Jan. 15.
The first-place Knights, winners of 10 of their last 11 games, upped their North Sound Conference record to 6-0 (12-4 overall) with the win.
South Whidbey slipped to 0-6 in league play and 2-13 overall.
The Falcons now travel to Coupeville to face the rival Wolves (4-2, 6-7) at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.
South Whidbey couldn’t get much going against King’s. The Knights, behind 8 points from Mia Flor, led 22-2 after the first quarter. Lexi Starets-Foote scored the Falcons’ only points.
In the second period, South Whidbey’s Sammi Daly hit a three-pointer, Emma Hodson connected on a pair of free throws and Farriss Jokinen tallied at the line, but King’s upped its lead to 38-8 at halftime.
The Falcons scored only 1 point in the second half, a third-quarter free throw by Hodson, and the Knights went ahead 53-9 after three periods.
“We played hard throughout,” South Whidbey coach Jeff Hanson said. “I am proud of the girls.”
