Although the South Whidbey High School baseball team piled up 12 hits, it wasn’t enough offense as the Falcons lost 17-6 to visiting Archbishop Murphy Wednesday, March 28.
The Wildcats (3-0, 7-1) built a 9-0 lead before South Whidbey got on the board with three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Archbishop Murphy answered by scoring nine runs over the last two innings to thwart the Falcon comeback.
The Wildcats touched four Falcon pitchers for 14 hits and 11 walks; six of the 17 runs were unearned.
South Whidbey’s strong offensive showing was led by Luke Rookstool, who finished with four hits, two runs and three stolen bases.
Drew Fry added two hits and three RBI; Alex Black singled twice, stole three bases, drove in a run and scored a run.
Aidyn Frederick, Cameron Middlebrook, Nick Young and Kade Petty also singled for South Whidbey.
The Falcons (1-3, 2-4) play Cedar Park Christian-Bothell at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Redmond’s Marymoor Park.
