Rendezvous Days bring 1840s life to Coupeville

The Central Whidbey Sportmen’s Association are hosting the annual Rendezvous Days this week south of Coupeville, depicting the life and times of pre-1840s America.

The Central Whidbey Sportmen’s Association are hosting the annual Rendezvous Days this week south of Coupeville, depicting the life and times of pre-1840s America.

People dressed as mountain men, buck skinners and fur trappers will cross the “Coupeville Plains” and meet at the association’s clubhouse and shooting range.

Trader’s tents will sell beads and leather goods, early American cooking utensils, leather and cotton clothing, blacksmithing items plus blackpowder guns and supplies.

There will be blackpowder shooting events, primitive archery, tomahawk and knife throwing and children’s games. Teepees will be erected on the association’s grounds, north of the clubhouse.

Organizers said the gathering of black powder shooters is expected to attract travelers and competitors from across the Pacific Northwest.

The event is free and open to the public. Rendezvous Days is from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 and Saturday, Aug. 20 and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21.
