South Whidbey Reign defeated Pacific FC Elite Club 1-0 in overtime on Saturday, Jan. 28 in the quarterfinals of the Washington State Youth Soccer Founders Cup in Vancouver, Wash.
The Reign advanced to the semifinals and face Seattle United West at Starfire Complex in Seattle today. If the Reign win, they face the winner of the Bainbridge Island-Seattle United Shoreline match.
Simone White scored the Reign’s lone goal with five minutes left in the second overtime period.
“The girls played outstanding team defense against a much bigger team,” said co-head coach Terry Swanson in an email. “It was our team fitness that paid off by wearing the opposition down. Simone’s goal came off a steal from a defensive mistake brought on by fatigue towards the end of the second overtime.”
