The South Whidbey baseball season ended Friday with a 9-4 loss to the Granite Falls Tigers.

“Our pitchers were knocked around with a 14-hit assault by the Tiger offense,” said Falcon coach Dave Guetlin.

“The Falcons also didn’t help themselves offensively, as they could only muster four hits on the day. Tiger pitcher Andrew Millican was perfect through the first three innings, and only allowed a base hit by Craig Hawkinson in the fourth,” he said.

In the Falcon top of the sixth inning, three runs were picked up on only two hits. RBI singles were turned in by Falcons Dakota Brown and Hunter Rawls. The Falcons picked up one more run in the seventh inning when Ben Ross was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Ross was eventually batted in by a TJ Fallon-RBI single to right field.

Guetlin said there were a lot of bright spots for his young team.

“Especially the young pitchers, who got in some vital experience that should help them for next year,” the coach noted. “There should be a good core group coming back for next season, with the strength of both the offense and the defense returning.”
