South Whidbey cross country sent 27 runners to Yakima for the Sunfair Invitational race, a massive gathering of racers from middle school to high school on Oct. 5.
The Falcons fared well in the races, which ranged from 2-mile to 3-mile heats and were divided by grade or varsity/junior varsity. The race marked the return of its top boy, junior Cole Zink, who had not raced since Sept. 18. Though not normally timed at events for 3-mile courses, Zink smashed his previous best time in 2011, finishing in 17:10.95, good for 24th place in the boys varsity race.
Anna Leski, a Falcon freshman, torched the course to lead the South Whidbey girls. She finished the 3-mile course in 20:10.76.
