Three lettermen return from last year’s South Whidbey High School boys golf team that placed ninth in the state tournament.
Returning are Gabe Jacobson-Ross, Brent de Wolf and Soren Bratrude.
Jacobson-Ross earned second-team, all-league honors and placed 31st in the state meet in 2018. De Wolfe was a third-team, all-conference choice.
Coach Steve Jones expects Lewis Mattson, Kellen Eager, Dane Sexton and Brady Hezel to battle for varsity playing time.
“(The) majority of the team is inexperienced, but that’s OK, they’re ready and willing to improve,” Jones said.
He called his crew “energetic, enthusiastic and cohesive.”
The goal for the season is for the players to improve and develop a love for the game, Jones said.
“At the conclusion of every match, whether in victory or defeat, my golfers will still respectfully shake the hand of their opponent while a burning desire and hunger to improve their golf skills churns in their souls,” Jones added.
Jones also lauded volunteer coach Paul Schuller, parents, community members and staff at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club for their support.
Cedarcrest and Archbishop Murphy will join South Whidbey for a jamboree at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at UBGCC.
The Falcons will play in the Where Do You Stand Invitational at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the Snohomish Golf Club.
