Whidbey Island resident Ginny Walkers is recovering from and winning a battle with ovarian cancer.
She is gearing up to participate in this year’s Rivkin Center SummeRun fundraiser in Seattle on July 21.
When Walkers was diagnosed in 2007 she had debilitating abdominal pain. She was sent to Seattle for more testing and specialists found a malignant tumor on her ovary. She had surgery and suffered through a treatment of chemotherapy.
“I didn’t know then about all the resources available,” Walker said. “But that was my journey.”
Walkers is a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, taking others to their treatments.
